FAQ

Questions and concerns

What types of sports are available for scholarships?

US universities offer scholarships across a wide range of sports — from track and field and swimming to tennis, football, wrestling, and gymnastics. The complete list depends on the specific university and division.

Is English language proficiency required?

Yes. For admission, you need to demonstrate English language proficiency — usually through TOEFL or Duolingo English Test (DET). The Duolingo English Test can be taken online, is accepted by most universities, and is a convenient alternative to TOEFL. Minimum scores vary by university.

How long does the application process take?

The optimal start time is between 12–18 months before the intended start of studies. In some cases, it's possible to complete the process in a shorter timeframe, but an early start increases the number of available options.

For what age group is the program suitable?

There are almost no age restrictions for admission. In Division I, there are certain eligibility rules, but in Division II and NAIA, conditions are much more flexible — admission is possible at any age as long as academic and athletic requirements are met.

What does the scholarship cover?

A full scholarship may include: tuition, accommodation, meals, academic materials, and medical insurance. A partial scholarship covers a certain portion of expenses. This is a grant — it doesn't need to be repaid.

Can I combine studies and sports?

This is the foundation of the NCAA system. Student athletes must maintain academic standing to participate in competitions. Universities provide tutors, flexible schedules, and academic support.

How safe is student life in the USA?

Student athletes live on or off campus with organized infrastructure, security, and a support system for international students.
